Remedies for Greasy and Oily hair

Home Remedies for Greasy and Oily hair

Greasy hair is one of the disgusting types of hair and it highly depends on one's heredity.

Every pore of your skin including your scalp has a sebaceous gland. This sebaceous gland secret an oily substance called sebum which gives your hair and faces a natural shine. Sebum makes your hair healthy and strong and it protects the hair from getting dry and damaged. However, in some people, this sebaceous gland produces excess oil which results in oily hair and skin.

This defect in sebaceous glands occur due to various factors like heredity, lifestyle, hormonal changes, or climate changes. Also, affected due to poor diet, improper hair care, sleeping habit, and some medicines also impact this gland.

We have the capacity to control this oily hair on our own without actually going for a salon. Just have to care for certain things like proper diet, proper sleep, and proper hair care.

I would suggest some of the best tips that will help you to control your sebaceous gland and makes your hair non-oily. It is simple and you can easily follow these rules at home.

1. Wash hair twice a week- Hair should be washed twice a week. Excessive usage of shampoo makes hair more oily. Use sulfate and paraben-free shampoo.

2. No excess oiling- As excess oiling may lead your hair more oily. If you want to oil your hair then just do it before 2 hours of shampooing, and then just rinse it off.

Mix 2 tbsp of virgin coconut oil/ jojoba oil with 10-15 drops of tea tree oil. Massage it gently on the scalp and then rinse it off with a mild shampoo after 2 hours.

Some of the homemade masks which are very useful to get rid of oily hair.

1. Aloe Vera Gel- It has very good nourishing properties due to its nutrient-rich composition. It really makes hair soft and oil-free. I personally use either Patanjali aloe vera gel or natural aloe leaf.

Mix 2 tbsp of aloe vera gel and mix it with 1 tsp of lemon juice ( You can add lemon juice only if you have dandruff) and massage it on the scalp, if it is very sticky then add some water as required. Leave it for 30 minutes then rinse it off with a mild shampoo. It softens your hair and also makes it non-oily. Do this once a week to get the best results.

2. Apple Cider Vinegar- Apple cider vinegar has pH-balancing properties because of the presence of acetic acid. Oily and greasy hair has a very low pH-balance, rising it with apple cider vinegar may restore its pH-balance.

Dilute 2-3 tbsp of apple cider vinegar to a cup of water and mix well. After shampooing with a mild shampoo rinse your hair with diluted ACV. Leave your hair for 20 minutes then rinse it off with simple cold water.

You can do this once a week.

3.Green Tea-  Green tea plays a great role in controlling excessive sebum secretion.

i) Mix 1 green tea sachet in 1 and a half cup of water and boil it in a saucepan.
ii) Boil it for some 5 minutes in low flame. and strain.
iii) Let it cool, after that apply it on your scalp and hair.
iv) Leave it for 40-45 minutes and then rinse off. No need to shampoo.

Instead of green tea you can also use black tea that's also useful to get rid of the oiliness of hair.

Do this once a week for 2 months for the results.
